about

The Daytime Freqeuncy is the solo project of Matthew Sigley from The Lovetones, Video Video, Polak, The Steinbecks, The Earthmen and Drop City.

In 1998 Matthew was recording and touring with Australian indie legends The Earthmen. He was also a member of Drop City and The Steinbecks and featured as a guest musician recording and playing live with many Australian artists at the time.

With plans to relocate to the UK, Matthew recorded a set of songs on his Tascam 234 four track recorder to take and send out as demos. The name The Daytime Frequency didn't come into being until 2000 and at this time Matthew was going by the name The George Ernest Collective or simply Matthew George Ernest.

The first eight songs on this album form the collection that was sent out to record labels in the UK. The songs range in style from indie folk to baroque pop to psychedelia. The last four tracks are bonus songs recorded at the same time but not included on the original demo.

Armed with the Tascam 234 and several of his drum machines and instruments Matthew moved to London in April of 1999. Volume Two of this collection will feature songs written and recorded during that period with several more volumes to follow after that.
